The CEIPI's job and internship offers
The CEIPI is recruiting a Post-doctoral legal scholar specialized in intellectual property with a French and/or international background. The successful candidate is expected to actively take part in ongoing research at the CEIPI, especially in the framework of European and international research projects.
We are also looking for a graduate (Master 2 or LL.M.) in the field of innovation law and the economics of intellectual property and for a legal scholar with a Master 2 or LL.M. in intellectual property law.
The CEIPI is looking for a legal intern expected to advance the educational and resarch missions of the CEIPI.
The CEIPI is also looking for a Head of International Cooperation, responsible for proposing, defining and implementing the European and/or international cooperation policy of the CEIPI in education and research.

Call for Applications: Post doctoral position (two years) « Law, economics, management of intellectual property »
The Centre d’Etudes Internationales de la propriété Intellectuelle (CEIPI - Centre for International Intellectual Property studies) and the Bureau d’Economie Théorique et Appliquée (BETA – Research centre in theoretical and applied economics) of the University of Strasbourg, France, are developing joint research on the topic “law, economics and management of intellectual property”.
Within the framework of this joint project, a fellowship is available to support a post-doctoral researcher.

Doctoral Scholarships in IP law at the CEIPI - Call for applications
The Doctoral School ED 101 Law, Political science and History will be awarding 4 doctoral contracts on identified topics this year. The CEIPI is proposing 5 topics which are subject to a call for applications.
An excellent level in French and English is required. It is possible to write the thesis in English.
- Intellectual Property and Human Rights (comparative, european and international aspects)
- (Re)thinking the trade mark system in the European Union: What adaptation to the digital environment?
- What legal framework for the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the EU and at international level? (including the implementation of specialised courts)
- The uniformisation of Intellectual Property Rights in the EU (an analyse of unified IP rights such as the community trademark and the community design; reflection on the codification/ simplification of the systems)
- Towards an international instrument on the protection of industrial designs?
The application deadline to the Doctoral school is:
- August 20, 2012 : full application and application without the grade for the Master thesis
- August 27, 2012 : application with the grade for the Master thesis (provided the rest of the application has been submitted on August, 20)
The interviews in Strasbourg will take place on:
- August 30,2012
- August 31, 2012 (if necessary due to the number of candidates)

Céline Meyrueis knight of the Legion of Honour

Thesis defence: The Protection of Software by Patent Law

We are pleased to announce a thesis defence at the CEIPI.
On September 17, 2012, Mr. Sébastien Drillon will present a thesis written under the co-direction of Professor Yves Reboul, Director of the French Section at CEIPI and Céline Meyrueis, Associate Professor at the University of Strasbourg and Director of Studies of the CEIPI, on the topic:
"The Protection of Software by Patent Law".
The members of the jury will be:
Professor Yves Reboul, Céline Meyrueis (Co-directors), Christian Le Stanc, Professor at the University of Montpellier I, Bertand Warusfel, Professor at the University of Lille II (Examiners), Stefan V. Steinbrener, former President of the Board of Appeal 3.5.0.1, Member of the Enlarged Board of Appeal at the EPO and Consultant at the Office Bardehle, Pagenberg, and Joanna Schmidt-Szalewski, emeritus Professor at the University of Strasbourg.
We will give you later further information concerning the place and time of this public thesis defense.
Xavier Seuba, Visiting Senior Research Associate at CEIPI
We are pleased to announce that Mr. Xavier Seuba, Senior Lecturer in Public International Law in Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona is newly recruited at the CEIPI as a visiting Senior Research Associate for two years.
His areas of technical expertise include pharmaceutical policies and law, intellectual property law and technical standards regulation. In the area of intellectual property law, he predominantly works on issues related to patents and intellectual property enforcement. Click here to learn more about Xavier Seuba.
Christophe Geiger, Director General of the CEIPI at the 31st Annual Congress of the ATRIP in Chicago: "Intellectual Property: Methods and Perspectives"
Christophe Geiger, Director General of the CEIPI, will participate in the 31st Annual Congress of the ATRIP (International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property) to be held in Chicago (United States) from July 29 to August 1, 2012 on the theme: "Intellectual Property: Methods and Perspectives".
Christophe Geiger will speak on: "Intellectual Property and Ethics".

RECENT EVENTS AT CEIPI
CEIPI Summer School
For the fourth year, the CEIPI organized a Summer School on IP in Europe. The courses were held from July 02 to July 07, 2012.
This Summer School aims to provide an academic and practical overview of the IP-related aspects of the legal system in the European Union, as well as giving concrete ideas about IP litigation in Europe. The courses are directed mainly at students and practitioners who want to acquire the basics of the European IP system.

WIPO/CEIPI/INPI Advanced Training Course on Legal, Administrative and Economic Aspects of Intellectual Property
Between June, 25 and July, 06 2012, took place the annual WIPO/CEIPI/INPI Advanced Training Course on the Legal, Administrative and Economic Aspects of Intellectual Property which has been jointly organised by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) and the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) since 1978.
The training is addressed in particular to officials of national and regional intellectual property offices of developing countries, least developed countries (LDCs) and countries with economies in transition, and it is aimed at building their human capacity as well as enhancing the awareness of the implications for development of intellectual property rights.

End of the Academic Year
The closing ceremony of the academic year for the CEIPI Diplomas "Patents" and "Trademarks and Designs" took place on June, 29 with the traditional ceremony of communication of results followed by the farewell party, gathering some of the lecturers, students and the CEIPI team.

Participation of the CEIPI Team to symposiums, conferences and other events
Yves Reboul at the Seminar "Information Sources in Biotechnology"
Professor Yves Reboul, Director of the French Section at CEIPI participated in the one day seminar organized by the European Commission Project SLING in partnership with Alsace Biovalley, the SATT Alsace Conectus, the regional delegation of INPI Alsace, the CEIPI, the IEEPI and the Innovation Parc of Strasbourg.
This seminar took place on July 13, 2012 at the ISU (International Space University).

The CEIPI at the International Summer Seminar organized by the CERDI: "Copyright in motion"
The CEIPI participated to the International Summer Seminar organized by the Centre d'Etudes et de Recherche en Droit de l'Immatériel (CERDI) which held at the Jean Monnet Faculty of Law in Sceaux between July 09 and 13, 2012 on the topic: "Copyright in motion".
On July 13, Christophe Geiger, Director General of the CEIPI, chaired the session "Freedom of speech and copyright: parody, (short) quotation…" and he gave the keywork speech of the session.
On July 10, Franck Macrez, Associate Professor at the CEIPI, took part to the session "Software and software-related works: multimedia works, functionalities, interoperability, graphic interfaces, programing languages". He spoke on the topics "ECJ case law" and "Computer program functionality".
And on the same day, Oleksandr Bulayenko, Research Assistant at the CEIPI, took part to the session "Dealing with orphan works and out of commerce works: exception, licence, extended collective licensing…".
