CEIPI, external expert of the European Parliament in the field of intellectual property rights
By letter of 18 July 2011, the European Parliament (the "EP") informed CEIPI that the latter had been selected for the award of a framework contract relating to external expertise in the field of intellectual property rights. CEIPI won both of the lots into which the call for tender (IP/C/JURI/FWC/2011-001) had been divided: Lot 1 comprising copyright and related rights, and Lot 2 comprising industrial property rights - including patents, trademarks, and industrial designs.
The EP's Committee on Legal Affairs seeks such independent expertise in order to strengthen its knowledge on various issues in the area of IP.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Two new research assistants at the CEIPI
Oleksandr Bulayenko and Marie Zemp have been newly recruited at the CEIPI as research assistants.
Oleksandr Bulayenko will write a thesis under the supervision of Christophe Geiger, Director General of the CEIPI and Marie Zemp will write a thesis under the supervision of Stéphanie Carre, Associate Professor at the CEIPI, University of Strasbourg.
Thesis defence of Géraldine Marie : European Law of Contracts for Exploitation of Immaterial Assets. Comparison of French and British Systems
We are pleased to announce that on september 26, 2011, Miss Géraldine Marie became Doctor of law at the University of Strasbourg with a thesis on the topic: "European Law of Contracts for Exploitation of Immaterial Assets. Comparison of French and English Systems", written under the supervision of Joanna Schmidt-Szalewski, Professor emeritus at the University of Strasbourg and member of the CEIPI Research Department.
The jury was composed of Mrs Laure Marino, Professor at the University of Strasbourg, Mr Thierry Lambert, Professor at the University of Nancy 2 , Mr Richard Desgorces, Professor at the University of Rennes 1 and the supervisor.

Franck Macrez at the symposium "La sécurité en crise(s)"
Franck Macrez, Associate Professor at the CEIPI gave a presentation at the third symposium organized by the "Fédération de Recherche" : "La sécurité" en crise(s)" which was held in Strasbourg on October 06 and 07, 2011. Franck Macrez, alongside with Julien Gossa, Associate Professor, LSITT, gave a public lecture on October, 07 on the topic "L'obligation de sécurisation de l'accès à Internet dans les lois Hadopi".

Public Lecture of Christophe Geiger at the "Waseda Law school" of Tokyo on the topic "The Constitutional Dimension of Copyright"
Christophe Geiger, Director general of the CEIPI, gave a public lecture on September 24, 2011 at the "Waseda Law school" of Tokyo on the topic "The Constitutional Dimension of Copyright". He also took part to the panel discussion with Professor Chang and Professor Kurita.

Christophe Geiger, Director general of the CEIPI, participated to the Workshop "Fair Use in Europe. In Search of Flexibilities in Copyright Law" which was held on September 17, 2011 at the Free University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands).
Christophe Geiger commented on the topic "Flexibilities Inside and Outside the EU Acquis: Interpreting the Three Step Test in the Light of Fundamental Rights".
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The beginning of the academic year at the CEIPI
On September 19, 2011 the CEIPI welcomed 65 students from France, Asia, North and South America in its Patents program in long tuition and the following week in its various Master 2 programs.
In the days to come the CEIPI will welcome students in its Trademarks and Industrial Designs program and in its Patent Litigation program.
Every year, the CEIPI provides a training for more than hundreds of specialists (engineers from prestigious higher education institutes, holders of scientific university degrees, legal scholars with an LLM or an equivalent degree, practitioners who wish to broaden their own knowledge) for a whole range of professions in the IP field.
Enrolment to the Master of Intellectual Property Law and Management (MIPLM)
Enrolment to the The Master of Intellectual Property Law and Management (MIPLM) for the year 2011-2012 is open. Deadline for enrolment is October, 31, 2011.
This Master addresses students and practitioners with a minimum of three years experience in the Intellectual Property field.

Enrolment to the Double Degree Programme in Intellectual Property Law in Skopje
After a first successful year, we are pleased to inform you that enrolment for the second edition (2011/2012 academic year) of the Double Degree Programme in Intellectual Property Law offered by the The Ss. Cyril et Methodius University in Skopje, Macedonia, and the CEIPI, is open.
This innovative initiative includes a program in Skopje that concentrates mainly on the international and European aspects of intellectual property (industrial property, copyright, related rights and other affiliated disciplines), and is taught by academic staff from the CEIPI, from its partners of the EIPIN network and from the faculty in Skopje and from neighbouring countries (Greece, Bulgaria and Serbia).
The opening ceremony for the academic year 2011-2012 will take place on December 02, 2011.
Manuel Desantes Real, Professor at the University of Alicante, will give an inaugural lecture on the topic "Protected innovations as a tool for entrepreneurship and economic development".

MISCELLANEOUS
Annual cocktail of the AACEIPI (Alumni Association of CEIPI)
The AACEIPI (Alumni Association of CEIPI) is an association whose purpose is to promote the development of the Center for International Intellectual Property Studies. Accordingly, it assists with the organization of conferences, symposia, internships and training sessions. In addition, it endeavors to help and encourage the students and the graduates of the CEIPI.
Its annual cocktail took place in Paris on October 06, 2011 in the presence of Maître Philippe Combeau, Lawyer and lecturer at the CEIPI and Elisabeth Thouret-Lemaître, Representative before the European Patent Office.

CEIPI's job and internship offers
CEIPI is looking for a Head of International Cooperation, responsible for proposing, defining and implementing the European and/or international cooperation policy of the CEIPI in education and research.
CEIPI is recruiting a Post-doctoral legal scholar specialized in intellectual property with a French and/or international background. The successful candidate is expected to actively take part in ongoing research at the CEIPI, especially in the framework of European and international research projects.
We are also looking for a graduate (Master 2 or LLM) in the field of innovation law and the economics of intellectual property and for a legal scholar with a Master 2 or LL.M. in intellectual property law.
Finally, the CEIPI is looking for a legal intern expected to advance the educational ans resarch missions of the CEIPI.
