CEIPI Conference at the European Parliamant within the Framework of the EIPIN Network

On February 24 to 25, 2011, the CEIPI is organizing a conference at the European Parliament of Strasbourg on the topic: "Constructing European IP law: achievements and new perspectives", coordinated by Christophe Geiger, General Director of the CEIPI, under the high patronage of Mrs Catherine Trautmann, Member of the European Parliament and Alain Beretz, President of the University of Strasburg.

This conference is organized within the context of the 12th EIPIN Congress - European Intellectual Property Institutes Network - whose members are: the CEIPI of the University of Strasburg, the Queen Mary Intellectual Property Research Institute of the University of London, the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC) and the Magister Lucentinus of the University of Alicante.

The creation of a European system of intellectual property rights arises numerous fundamental issues; this conference has the aim to examine the perspectives and opportunities for a factual harmonisation.

With this objective in mind, the CEIPI has gathered a panel of specialists - academics, practitioners and senior officials - from prestigious universities, research institutes, European institutions and offices to share their expertise and contribute to the success of this ambitious project. These specialists will feature a careful revising of the actual European legislative framework in the IP field, accompanied by an analysis on the prospective actions to be taken in order to harmonise the disparate intellectual property laws throughout Europe.

CEIPI Public Lecture: Which legal protection for folklore and traditional knowledge related to genetic resources?

Within the framework of the series of lectures : "(RE)thinking Intellectual Property, Fundamental Questions and New Perspectives", Nebila Mezghani, Professor at the Faculty of Law of Tunis (Tunisia) and chair holder at the UNESCO for the teaching of copyright and neighbouring rights gave a presentation on December 8, 2010 on the topic :

"Which legal protection for folklore and traditional knowledge related to genetic resources?"

CEIPI Summer School on IP in Europe

For the third year, CEIPI is organizing a Summer School on IP in Europe to be be held from July 4 to July 9, 2011. The program of this event will be available very soon.

Conference at the CEIPI of Alexander Grigoriev, President of the Eurasian Patent Organization

CEIPI was honored to welcome Mr. Alexander Nikolayevich Grigoriev, President of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO), who gave a conference on December 9, 2010 on the topic "The Eurasian Patent Organization - Its Place and Role in the Worldwide Patent System".

M. Grigoriev is President of the Eurasian Patent Office since 2004 and he is one of the initiators and main developers of the Eurasian Patent Convention.

Thesis defence of Caroline Rodà: Civil Remedies of Infringement of Industrial Property Rights

We are pleased to announce that on  December 7, 2010, Miss Caroline Rodà, Research assistant at the CEIPI defended her thesis written under the supervision of  Joanna Schmidt-Szalewski, Professor emeritus at the University of Strasbourg. The subject was:

"Civil Remedies of Infringement of Industrial Property Rights (French, Belgian, Luxemburger, German and British Laws)"

The jury was composed of Mr. Jacques Azéma, Professor emeritus at the University Jean Moulin (Lyon III), Mr. Jean-Christophe Galloux, Professor at the University Panthéon-Assas (Paris II), Mr. Jacques Raynard, Professor à the University of Montpellier I and Mr. Yves Reboul, Professor at the University of Strasbourg.

Inaugural conference of Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje, Macedonia

On Friday, November 12th, 2010 at 5pm, took place in Skopje the official opening of the "Master of Intellectual Property Law" jointly organized by CEIPI and Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje (Republic of Macedonia) in association with their partners universities of Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia and the members of the EIPIN network.

Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI gave an inaugural lecture on "Making Copyright Fit for the 21st Century Achievements and New Perspectives".

South Korean delegation visits CEIPI

On October the 8th, 2010, CEIPI hosted a delegation from Hongik University of Seoul, South Corea. This visit was intended to establish a cooperation agreement in the field of Intellectual Property between our Centre and Hongik University.

Therefore CEIPI has been invited to attend to the next conference, to be held in Seoul on March the 24th, 2011 on the topic "Commercializing Innovation: Global Best Practice".

CEIPI Employment offers

CEIPI is recruiting a Post-doctoral legal scholar specialized in intellectual property with a French and/or international background. The successful candidate is expected to actively take part in ongoing research at the CEIPI, especially in the framework of European and international research projects.

We are also looking for a legal scholar with a Master 2 or LL.M. in intellectual property law who is pursuing or would like to pursue doctoral studies.

The list of the Master thesis submitted by CEIPI students in Master 2 in Intellectual Property for the year 2009-2010 is now available on the CEIPI website.

Christophe Geiger at the Conference of the Free University of Brussels : Which Legal Answer to the Download of works on the Internet? Belgian and European Perspectives

Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI participated at the conference "Which Legal Answer to the  Download of  works on the Internet? Belgian and European Perspectives " which took the 14th December 2010 at the Free University of Brussels.

Christophe Geiger gave a presentation on the topic "The French Law "Création et Internet" and the Situation in the Other European States"

The CEIPI is honoured – Two former students at the CEIPI have been appointed chairman of technical boards of appeal at the EPO

The administrative council of the European Patent Office appointed Joseph Riolo and Pascal Gryczka, two former students at the CEIPI, as chairman of the technical boards of appeal 3.3.07 and 3.3.11, respectively. The appointments were made during the 125th session held from the 26th to the 28th of October, 2010.

Joseph Riolo studied biochemistry at the Université de Strasbourg and obtained a doctorate in organic chemistry and biochemistry. He was nominated to a research chair at the CNRS. In 1999 he was appointed member of the appeal boards of the EPO.

Pascal Gryczka holds a masters in biochemistry and a DEA in organic chemistry from the Université Louis-Pasteur in Strasbourg. He was nominated member of the appeal boards in 2002.

The CEIPI would like to congratulate these two former students for their prestigious appointments.

14th edition of the European Patent Convention in electronic version

The 14th edition of the European Patent Convention is now available in pdf version and soon in HTML version on the website of the European Patent Office.
