Official kick-off in Brussels of the pan-European “EIPIN-Innovation Society” project, 16-17 March 2017

On 16-17 March 2017, the participants of the EIPIN-Innovation Society gathered at the UM Campus Brussels for the official kick-off of the project, where CEIPI is one of the major partners. This project is funded by the European Commission within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, European Joint Doctorates (EJD). It aims to examine the role of intellectual property (IP) as a complex adaptive system in innovation. For more information, please visit: http://www.eipin-innovationsociety.org/

Were present at the kick off meeting and partners of this project: academics from the EIPIN institutions (Maastricht University, University of Alicante, Queen Mary University of London, Université de Strasbourg - CEIPI, Universität Augsburg, the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition) and its main partners the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), European Seed Association (ESA), Hovione, European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), Ericsson, European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, Chemelot InSciTe, ASTP Proton, the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI), the International Confederation of Authors and Composers Societies (CISAC).

In the framework of this project, the members of the consortium recruited 15 PhD candidates (including 3 at CEIPI), on 15-16 May 2017 in Alicante, wishing to conduct doctoral research on the role of intellectual property in the adaptive complexities of innovation. The successful candidates will be conferred a joint doctoral degree from two of the five participating universities and will complete a research stay at partner institutions.

On this occasion, the members of the consortium were welcomed to EUIPO by Mr. António Campinos, Executive Director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

A new volume published in CEIPI’s collection “Trade-related international intellectual property law: the TRIPs Agreement, assessment and perspectives”, edited by Prof. Christophe Geiger

The CEIPI is happy to announce the publication in August 2017 of the volume “Trade-related international intellectual property law: the TRIPs Agreement, assessment and perspectives”, edited by Professor Christophe Geiger, Director General and Director of the Research Department of CEIPI, LexisNexis, CEIPI’s Collection no 65 (2017).

Concluded in 1994 as an outcome of the Uruguay round of multilateral trade negotiations, the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs) has now entered its third decade. As a central instrument in international IP law, it has brought a significant level of convergence among legislations as well as a new understanding of intellectual property rights protection, and thus has had a major influence on the development of this area of law. However, since it came into force, the Agreement has given rise to controversies and divergent interpretations, reaching well beyond specialised IP circles. In this collective publication, the CEIPI Research Department wishes to offer a cross-sectional analysis of the Agreement, its background, implementations, interpretations given by the WTO dispute settlement body, and various doctrinal perspectives. Thus, the preamble of the agreement and its general provisions, the sections concerning intellectual property law as well as the section on the implementation of rights are examined on various levels in light of the new challenges and perspectives, thereby touching on current issues in IP law.

Launch of the 2nd volume of the CEIPI Working Paper Series volume 2 on SSRN

The Advanced Program for Chinese Judges on Intellectual Property Court Practice, organized by IP Key and CEIPI, took place from 18 to 30 March 2017 in Strasbourg. The two-week advanced training for Chinese Judges aimed at strengthening knowledge and skills on intellectual property rights adjudication through peer-to-peer exchanges between Chinese and European IP judges and experts.

By means of workshops, case-studies, jurisprudence analysis, group discussions, study visits and a mock trial, the program addressed key issues in court practice and litigation of intellectual property rights, while giving special attention to cross-cutting procedural aspects. The training program also intended to create a common understanding on trends and best-practices between EU and China, while hands-on comparative analysis between Chinese and EU practice will be instrumental to capture the complexities of adjudication process of intellectual property disputes.

28th European tutor’s meeting of the CEIPI

On 1 and 2 June 2017, the CEIPI has organized its 28th annual European tutors’ meeting in Strasbourg. About 60 specialists in European Patent law, who impart CEIPI’s training in about twenty countries and forty cities, coming from several European countries, have participated in this meeting to share their experience and to attend various presentations and workshops on training issues, European patent law and the PCT.

The programme of the current edition of the tutors’ meeting has focused on the future development of the basic training courses, in order to take up the challenges which this training currently faces: adaptation of the course schedule in order to train future patent attorneys as from their entry to the profession, organization of new courses in countries of the European patent organization which currently cannot offer such training, complementary training modules to adapt to specific needs, etc.

Therefore, the reports on the current courses and the traditional exchanges between the tutors and coordinators have been followed by Cees Mulder’s excellent presentation on the improvement of training skills. Cees Mulder, European patent attorney and CEIPI tutor, has introduced several training and presentation skills aiming at increasing the course efficiency and the motivation of the audience. Furthermore, several workshops have dealt with different course-related topics, such as the integration of exercises into the course syllabus, the adaptation to recent and new courses, the sharing of training material and possible amendments to the course calendar.

On Friday, Matthew Bryan, director of PCT legal division at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), has presented recent PCT updates. Derk Visser, European patent attorney and author of “The annotated European Patent Convention”, has given a presentation on recent EPO case law, particularly appreciated by the participants. The meeting finished with the presentation of the suggestions prepared within the workshops. They will be further analyses after the meeting in order to progressively incorporate them into the basic training courses.

The CEIPI thanks all the lecturers and the participants of the meeting. Special thanks to Christoph Machwirth, Head of European Qualifying Examination of the EPO, and to Jakob Kofoed, Director DG 1 and Deputy Chairman of the Examination Board of the EQE, who participated in the meeting in the framework of the Euro-CEIPI cooperation with the European Patent Office.

New presidency for the Association of Alumni and friends of the CEIPI (AACEIPI)

On 10 May 2017, took place in Paris the General Assembly of the Association of Alumni and friends of the CEIPI (AACEIPI).

The association, which groups mainly former students of the CEIPI, assists and encourages students and graduates in their career and also intends to be a great place to build caring relationships between its members.

At the meeting, Mrs. Evelyne Roux, President of AACEIPI from 2013 to 2017, handed over the presidency to Mr. Jérôme Sujkowski and to his Management Committee, which was renewed at the GA on 10 May 2017.

Publication of the volume “Trade, Public Health, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, by Xavier Seuba

We are pleased to announce the publication of the volume “Trade, Public Health, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, by Xavier Seuba, Senior Lecturer at CEIPI, within ICTSD series of papers “Global Economic Governance”, February 2017.

In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Health is central in that agenda, which aims at ensuring universal health coverage and access to quality health care. It also acknowledges that major challenges remain in terms of reducing maternal and child mortality, improving nutrition, fighting infectious diseases and addressing non-communicable diseases. This think piece by Xavier Seuba focuses on two broad public health objectives that would benefit from action in the area of trade policy and trade rules as a contribution to the health-related targets of the 2030 Agenda.

The CEIPI is happy to announce the upcoming publication of Xavier Seuba, Senior Lecturer, Training Coordinator and Judicial Training Manager at CEIPI, scheduled for September 2017, “The Global Regime for the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights”, Cambridge University Press. This book offers a comprehensive description of the international norms and bodies dealing with the enforcement of intellectual property rights, and analyzes multilateral, plurilateral, and bilateral treaties, and their national implementation, along with civil, border, and criminal enforcement. The book also explores the interface between the enforcement of intellectual property rights and the norms regulating international trade, competition, and human rights, as well as the conceptual and systemic aspects of enforcement, while illustrating the importance of these rights with examples in litigation.

Research seminar of the CEIPI’s Research Department, 19 June 2017, Strasbourg

The CEIPI’s Research Department organized a research seminar on 19 June 2017, with the guests:

Prof. Shuya Hayashi, Graduate School of Law, Nagoya University, Japan. His presentation focused on “Artificial Intelligence and the Law in Japan - Focusing on IP and Competition Policy”. Prof. Hayashi was hosted by CEIPI in the framework of the “Japan Group” exchanges at the Maison Universitaire France-Japon. This is a Unistra program designed to promote scientific cooperation and the establishment of new collaborations between Unistra and its Japanese partners.

Prof. Sean O'Connor, Director of the Center for Advanced Study and Research on Innovation Policy (CASRIP), Faculty Director, Cannabis Law & Policy Project, Chair, UW IP Management Advisory Committee, University of Washington. He presented the book that he wrote during his research stay at CEIPI, “The Methodology and the Means of Innovation”.

The debates were moderated by Prof. Christophe Geiger, Director General and Director of the CEIPI Research Department.

One-day seminar of the CEIPI’s Research Department “European Case Law in Intellectual Property”, 5 May 2017

Opening of the seminar by Mr. Franck Macrez, Associate Professor at CEIPI, Ms. Stephanie Carre, Associate Professor at CEIPI and Ms. Valérie Laure Benabou, Professor at the University Aix Marseille

A one-day seminar entitled “European Case Law in Intellectual Property” has been organized by the CEIPI’s Research Department and the Research Federation “L’Europe en mutation”, on 05 May 2017 at Strasbourg, MISHA, under the scientific leadership of Ms. Stephanie Carre and Mr. Franck Macrez, Associate Professors at CEIPI.

As for the previous editions, the members of the Research Department as well as affiliated practitioners analyzed the recent developments in intellectual property case-law in the European Union. The one-day seminar also opened new perspectives to be pursued in the interest of the coherence and efficiency of the European system of intellectual property in the single market.

This event was open to students, doctoral students, academics and practitioners and was validated in the framework of the continuing vocational training for lawyers.

CEIPI-BETA-I3PM conference “Intellectual Property and Digitalization – Challenges for Intellectual Property Management, 4 May 2017

The CEIPI - BETA Project in Law and economics of Intellectual Property, in association with I3PM, organized on 4 May 2017 a one-day conference under the topic “Intellectual Property and Digitalization: Challenges for Intellectual Property Management”.

The conference addressed the revolutionary changes in the innovation system, affecting industries, universities and public institutions, resulting from the digital transformation. Three panels were devoted to “The Digital Transformation – from freedom to operate to risk management”, “Big Data - ownership and use in the digital age”, and “Patentability of technical software solutions and the exploitation model for digital innovation”.

CEIPI is happy to announce the opening of a new advanced training program “Intellectual Property Enforcement and Online Regulation”, to take place in Strasbourg from 7 to 9 December 2017.

As a lawyer, entrepreneur, or policy maker working at the forefront of Internet and technology industry, you must know whether and when access providers and communications platforms like Google, Twitter and Facebook are liable for their users’ online activities. This is one of the most relevant emerging issue for online businesses and a key factor that affects innovation and free speech.

This training program will explore legal, policy and ethical issues facing online intermediaries from a national and international perspective.  In this course, the participants will learn about novel issues of Internet jurisdiction and innovation regulation. The course will discuss the legal framework, case law and enforcement strategies dealing with intermediate liability for copyright, trademark, and privacy (right to be forgotten) infringement. Also, this course focuses on the role of Internet platforms and service providers in moderating the speech they carry for customers, including obligations and liabilities for defamation, hate and dangerous speech.

The training program will pay great attention to online platforms’ regulation within the upcoming Digital Single Market (DSM) reform package in Europe. It will expose participants to most recent caselaw from European and other international courts, while providing state-of-the-art understanding of recent and upcoming intermediary liability trends online.

This training program would gather together media, creative economies, and high-tech professionals and entrepreneurs, lawyers, policy makers, judges, and students.

CEIPI Executive IP Management Days, 19– 20 October 2017

This program, that takes place from 19 to 20 October 2017 in Strasbourg, is dedicated to train IP management executives in industry and institutions. Since 2006 the MIPLM program educates IP management skills to IP experts from all over the world. There is a growing and devel­oping best practice in business orientated IP management.

The workshops aim to provide insight into industry specific aspects of IP strategy development, practical issues in systematic synthetic invention, IP protection of perceived customer benefits and sustainable organizational change in companies.

The workshop program is mainly addressed to IP professionals, but it is also open for graduate students who are interested in these topics.

The framework is designed for inspired discussions and networking.

CEIPI Summer School on Intellectual Property in Europe, 26 June to 7 July 2017

A summer school in European intellectual property law has been held successfully at the CEIPI since 2009.

The 9th edition took place from 26 June to 7July 2017.

Unique in Europe and in the world, this Summer School offered a two weeks training as theoretical as practical for both scientific and law backgrounds. In fact, the division of the course into two parts, the first devoted to a general stream and the second a specialized stream, during which students may opt for a “Patent path” or a “Trademark and Designs path” granted to this Summer School its specificity.

The lecturers were selected from the academic staff of CEIPI, from experts in the intellectual property field, including professors and experienced practitioners but also official representatives, examiners, members of opposition chambers and so on.

The Summer School aimed at providing a general overview of the intellectual property in the context of the European Union’s legal system, and likewise, to bring practical solutions in regard to intellectual and industrial property rights litigation in Europe. The course was addressed especially to students and practitioners willing to gain a solid background in European and international intellectual property law.

Results Announcement Ceremony for the “Patents” and the “Trademarks and Industrial Designs” diplomas

The closing ceremony of the academic year for the “Patents” and the “Trademarks and Industrial Designs” diplomas took place on 30 June 2017 with the traditional Results Announcement Ceremony followed by the farewell reception gathering some of the lecturers (Mr. Francis Ahner, Mr. Yann Basire, Mr. Jean-Baptiste Lecoeur, Mr. Pierre Jeannequin, Mr. Laurent Nuss and Mr. Gérard Weiss), students and the CEIPI management and team (Mr. Christophe Geiger, Mr. Yves Reboul, Mr. Stéphane Thomas, Ms. Céline Meyrueis).

This year, the best students received gifts offered by the INPI (Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle), represented by Mr. Philippe Borne, Regional Delegate of INPI Alsace and the ASPI (Association Française des Spécialistes en Propriété Industrielle de l'Industrie), represented by Ms. Brigitte Ruellan, board member of the ASPI.

CEIPI/WIPO/INPI Advanced Training Course on Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Licensing, 12 to 23 June 2017, Strasbourg

The CEIPI/WIPO/INPI Advanced Training Course on Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Licensing took place from 12 to 23 June 2017 in Strasbourg. This training course is jointly organized since 1978 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) and the French National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). Like in the past edition, the present course touched upon the legal and economic aspects of technology transfer and licensing. 

The training was addressed to technology transfer professionals, including professionals working in university technology transfer offices, national and regional intellectual property offices and science and technology ministries. With an integrated and practical approach, the CEIPI/WIPO/INPI Advanced Training Course on Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Licensing was also of the interest of lawyers and economists.

Participants benefited from the expertise of specialists from several international organizations, prestigious research institutes and universities, and renowned experts, while interacting with professionals coming from all over the world. The interest of the program for developed, emerging and developing economies made it a unique forum to exchange experiences and share opportunities.

First price of the 2017 APRAM competition won by a CEIPI IP Master student

We have the pleasure to inform you that Ms. Anna Lawrynowicz-Drewek, student of the Master in European and International Intellectual Property directed by Prof. Christophe Geiger, won the first price of the 2017 APRAM (Association des Praticiens du Droit des Marques et des Modèles) competition.

The topic of the competition was the following: “Determine with regard to current and prospective substantive law, what should be considered as an action, different from counterfeit, which should fall under the scope of unfair competition and/or parasitism”.

As for every year, the 1st prize will be followed by a publication in the law review “Propriété industrielle” (LexisNexis).

Mr. Leonardo Machado Pontes won the 1st prize of the annual ECTA award competition

The CEIPI has the pleasure to announce that Mr. Leonardo Machado Pontes, PhD student at CEIPI, under the supervision of Prof. Christophe Geiger, won the 1st prize of the annual ECTA award competition 2017, in the “student” category for his paper “Commercial Trade Mark Parodies”.

ECTA, the European Communities Trade Mark Association, was formed in 1980. ECTA numbers approximately 1.500 members, coming from all Member States of the European Union with associate members from all over the world.

In order to strengthen the cooperation and exchange with academics, ECTA has decided to grant an Award to an individual who has written an article or an essay of importance for the development of European Trade mark law.

The award ceremony took place on the 30 June 2017 in Budapest, during the ECTA Annual Conference.

Nomination of Cees Mulder as extraordinary professor at the University of Maastricht

A delegation of the China EU School of Law at CEIPI

A group of 23 students from the Master program “European and International Law” of the China-EU School of Law took a three weeks class in Strasbourg on Consumer protection law in May 2017, under the supervision of Mr. Nicolas Nord, Associate Professor at the Law Faculty of Strasbourg.

Prof. Yves Reboul, Director of the French Section of CEIPI and Ms. Céline Meyrueis-Pebeyre, Associate Professor and Director of studies of CEIPI were delighted to host the delegation on 16 May 2017 for an introduction into to the activities of CEIPI in the field of IP.

CEIPI – CNCPI – ASPI Preparatory Seminar for the French qualifying examination, specialization “patents”, 11 to 13 May 2017

The CEIPI, CNCPI and ASPI organized a specific common preparatory seminar for the French Qualifying Examination (EQF) that was held from 11 to 13 May 2017.

Those three days allowed the candidates to prepare for the test “patent” and to offer them legal news on the subject. Those topical days were open to any person wishing to update their knowledge on the covered topics especially the implementation of the American law on patents, professional ethics, legal news on patents and patents with a unitary effect and European jurisdiction on patents.

This preparation included on one hand a legal developments seminar and on the other hand roundtables.

Basic training in European Patent Law

Several basic training courses in European Patent Law designed to accompany the professional practice of future Patent Attorneys and organized in currently 36 European cities, will start in autumn 2017. The courses running in Düsseldorf, Hanover, Cologne, Munich, Helsinki, Lisbon, Prague Krakow and Istanbul welcome candidates as from September or October 2017, according to the schedule of each course. We are pleased to announce that two new basic training courses will open in Vilnius and Zagreb at the beginning of the academic year 2017-18. Enrolment for these courses is still possible.

Patent Litigation in Europe Course

The 14th course on Patent Litigation in Europe has finished on 10 June 2017 with the final oral examination followed by a closing ceremony and the distribution of the certificates of attendance. This course has been attended in 2016-17 by 118 participants from several European countries.

During the last module, held in May 2017, the participants have attended a Mock trial chaired by Prof. Dr. Peter Meier-Beck, presiding judge at the German Federal Court of Justice, Dr. Klaus Juffernbruch, Physician and coach for Human Resources, Mr. Gabriele Gislon, European Patent Attorney, Mr. David Perkins, solicitor, Mr. Harald Springorum and Ms Nassim Kiani.

Enrolment for the Master of Intellectual Property Law and Management (MIPLM), Academic year 2017-2018

This European Master's program is designed especially for European patent attorneys, lawyers and other experienced IP professionals. Its ultimate objective is to qualify experienced IP professionals to act as IP managers with the practical skills and knowledge to deal with the new challenges of wealth creation and profit generation. Participants acquire first and foremost a new understanding of how intellectual property works in business models and are conveyed the necessary skills to achieve the systematic alignment of IP management and business objectives.

This Master addresses students and practitioners with a minimum of three years’ experience in the Intellectual Property field.

Enrolment Master of Laws 2 in Industrial Property, Academic year 2017-2018

This European Master's program is intended for scientists and engineers who wish to expand their knowledge of industrial property law and who are already graduates of the CEIPI diploma “Patents”. Its ultimate objective is to qualify experienced IP professionals, French and/or European Patent representatives or representatives with national offices outside Europe, to broaden their legal knowledge as required by the evolution of careers in intellectual property and the rise of new professions and new specializations in companies and law firms in the field of intellectual property.

This Master addresses practitioners who are graduates of the CEIPI program “Patents” (semesters 1 and 2 of the first year), graduates of the CEIPI program “Trademarks / Industrial Designs” or of the program “Patent Litigation in Europe” (semester 4). Candidates for the “Masters degree in Industrial Property” (semester 3) that are not graduates of either of the programs of semester 4, may register for the “Masters degree in Industrial Property” (semester 3), provided that they obtain one of the diplomas of semester 4. Moreover, candidates must be representatives with a national office or the European Patent Office and have four years of experience as a representative.

Enrolment for the academic year 2017-2018 is open until early December 2017.

Scholarship for obtaining an LLM at Vanderbilt University, USA (academic year 2018/2019)

In the framework of their new partnership, CEIPI of the University of Strasbourg and the Law School of the Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee) announce the creation of a special scholarship meant for a CEIPI student for obtaining an LLM in the USA. This scholarship of 30 000 $ comes with a position (remunerated according to the application rates) of research assistant on intellectual property (the exam period won’t be paid) under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Gervais. This scholarship is available for the academic year 2018-2019 (beginning of the courses in August 2018). A similar scholarship will be provided each year.

The LLM degree of Vanderbilt allows students to take the Bar exam, especially the New York’s one. About sixty students from Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa are accepted into the LLM program each year. The LLM program is fully integrated into the JD (Juris Doctor degree or Doctor of Law degree) program and enables students to register to the same courses. An intensive and optional legal English course is also provided in July.

The scholarship recipient will be chosen jointly by the CEIPI and Vanderbilt.

Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, and Xavier Seuba, Senior Lecturer and Researcher at CEIPI, Academic Coordinator and Judicial Training Manager, participated on June 15 in the conference The Global Debate on Intellectual Property, Trade and Development: Past, Present and Future, a Conference in Honor of Pedro Roffe, organized by the University of Minnesota Law School in cooperation with The Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva and the Centre for International Governance Innovation.

This conference paid tribute to the seminal contributions of Pedro Roffe to international cooperation and diplomacy in the fields of intellectual property, trade and development. Most of all, it paid tribute to his quest for a balanced dialogue on intellectual property rights, public policy and development.

Leading academics, diplomats and policy makers gathered to reflect intently on a range of issues at the intersection of trade, technology and innovation. The conference agenda addressed contemporary challenges in intellectual property, trade and innovation policy, with attention to policy levers conducive to forging new institutional platforms that are better equipped to deal with the multifaceted dynamics of the modern global regulatory and economic order.

Xavier Seuba used this opportunity to present, for the first time, his forthcoming book on The Global Regime for the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights, to be released next September 2017.

The 18th EIPIN Congress on the topic “The New Data Economy between Data Ownership, Privacy and Safeguarding Competition” took place from 6 to 8 April 2017 at the European Patent Office and the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich, Germany.

Xavier Seuba, Senior Lecturer and Researcher at CEIPI chaired and commented the panel titled: “Should We ‘Own’ Our Data? - Economic Rights in Personal Data?”.  Ten selected CEIPI’s students participated in this congress, which involved an upstream research work and the preparation of a collective paper within a team of students from the partner institutes.

The congress was preceded by the EIPN doctoral seminar, from 5 to 6 April at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, where two doctoral candidates at CEIPI presented their research: Oleksandr Bulayenko: “Multi-Territorial Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights in the EU: Overcoming Fragmentation of Rights’ Exercise in the Single Market” and Luc Desaunettes: “The Legal Protection of Trade Secrets”.

Xavier Seuba at the Intellectual Property and Global Development: 50 years after Stockholm symposium, 31 March 2017, CLIP, Texas A&M University School of Law, Dallas, USA

On 31 March – 1 April 2017, Xavier Seuba, Senior Lecturer, Academic Coordinator and Judicial Training Manager at CEIPI, participated in the symposium “Intellectual Property and Global Development: 50 Years After Stockholm”, organized in Dallas by the Center for Law and Intellectual Property.

This symposium examined the development of the international intellectual property regime since the Stockholm Intellectual Property Conference in June–July 1967. In addition to developments concerning the Berne and Paris Conventions, the TRIPS Agreement and the WIPO Development Agenda, this event explored new intellectual property issues arising from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.

Giancarlo Frosio at the 3rd MSI-NET meeting at the Council of Europe, 27 March 2017, Strasbourg

Giancarlo Frosio, Senior Researcher and Lecturer at the CEIPI participated to the 3rd MSI-NET meeting at the Council of Europe on 27-28 March 2017. The MSI-NET is the Committee of experts on Internet intermediaries that discusses recommendations for Internet intermediaries under the aegis of the Council of Europe.

CEIPI is looking for a lawyer with a Master’s degree or LLM in Intellectual Property who would like to bring its expertise to the Center in patent litigation and the Unified patent court (research and support for the training activities of the center). Depending on candidate's profile, the position could take the form of a research assistant contract, a casual work contract or internship. This position could open the possibility of writing a doctoral thesis in the field of intellectual property.

Internship: Legal Researcher in Human Rights and Intellectual Property (Fall 2017)

The CEIPI is looking for a legal intern to advance the educational and research missions of the center.

The intern will work with Prof. Christophe Geiger (Director General and Director of the Research Department of the CEIPI) on the research project on Human Rights and Intellectual Property. The intern will research the case law with regard to fundamental rights implications of intellectual property. Excellent research and drafting skills are required.
