Opening of registrations to the Conference celebrating the 50th anniversary of CEIPI
The Center for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) celebrates this year its 50th anniversary.
The highlight of the celebrations will be an international conference organized by CEIPI on 27th and 28th November 2014 at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on the topic “Perspectives for the Intellectual Property System in a Globalized World”.
Registration started on 1st July 2014.

PARTNERSHIPS
CEIPI continues to develop French, European and international partnerships with the signature of five agreements with prestigious institutions and universities active in the field of intellectual property.
France
CEIPI is reinforcing its partnership with the French Industrial Property Office (INPI) – a harbinger of the future intellectual property cluster (Pôle de compétence en propriété intellectuelle - PCPI) that will open in Strasbourg and will be composed of CEIPI, INPI and the European Institute for Enterprise and Intellectual Property (IEEPI).
Cooperation agreement between CEIPI and INPI
CEIPI and the French Industrial Property Office (INPI) have a long record of cooperation.
Keen on strengthening their common work in education and training in intellectual property law, as well as developing common areas of research, the two partners have signed a framework agreement at the last meeting of CEIPI’s Administrative Board, on June 6, 2014, in Strasbourg.
Besides implementing common training programs, the partners agree to intensify their collaboration by jointly organising conferences and events, to share expertise and inform each other about events, training programs, tenders, etc.

In the framework of the cooperation agreement, a seminar took place from June 23-27, 2014 at CEIPI in Strasbourg in partnership with WIPO. The seminar was dedicated to “Transfer of Technology, Licences and Development” (see below).

CEIPI is expanding its activities through the signature of various agreements with European partners.
Cooperation agreement between CEIPI and OIPRC, Oxford University
A cooperation agreement was signed between CEIPI and the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre (OIPRC) of the University of Oxford, directed by Professor Graeme Dinwoodie, visiting Professor at CEIPI.
The signing ceremony was held at CEIPI on May 20 in the presence of members of the Research Section of CEIPI and numerous doctoral students and students in the masters programs at CEIPI.
The aim of this agreement is to set up a forum to exchange experience and knowledge concerning research in intellectual property and to promote ambitious joint research projects and publications, to exchange experts, as well as to organise international conferences and events.

International
CEIPI is reinforcing its position internationally by formalising cooperation with a prestigious American university and an internationally recognised Geneva based centre.
CEIPI and ICTSD finalize a cooperation agreement
The Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) at the University of Strasbourg and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) based in Geneva concluded a cooperation agreement with the aim to deepen their collaboration in the field of intellectual property at the international level.
As part of this collaboration, the partner organizations will implement a number of joint activities such as seminars, training courses, conferences and workshops; research activities and joint publications; exchange of views and information between the two institutions and the hosting of researchers and interns from CEIPI at ICTSD.
The collaboration will focus on a number of topics of common interest such as global issues and challenges facing intellectual property and intellectual property regimes in developing countries, in the context of seeking to achieve a balanced intellectual property system which takes into account the diversity of existing interests.
The first joint activity under this cooperation agreement consisted of a joint training seminar on “Collective Management of Rights and Related Rights: European, International and Comparative Aspects”, which was held in collaboration with WIPO from 16 to 20 June 2014 at CEIPI premises in Strasbourg.

Cooperation agreement between CEIPI and CASRIP, University of Washington, Seattle
CEIPI and the Center for Advanced Study & Research on Intellectual Property (CASRIP) wanted to formalise their long-standing collaboration through the signature of a cooperation agreement enabling the future exchange of researchers, students, and the creation of combined programmes, the development of research projects as well as the joint organisation of conferences.
Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, during his visit to Seattle in May 2014, signed this agreement with Prof. Toshiko Takenaka, Director of CASRIP, at a ceremony organised by Prof. Kellye Y. Testy, Dean of the School of Law at the University of Washington.

The Director General of CEIPI had been invited to Seattle by the University of Washington to participate in a series of events concerning intellectual property last April and May. He spoke on: “Human Rights and Intellectual Property from a European Perspective”, and on “Copyright Enforcement Issues from a Global Perspective”.
In the framework of this cooperation agreement, the Paris Congress on Industrial Property on the topic “The legal framework for Employee’s inventions: Asia – USA – Europe”, organized by the FNDE, in collaboration with CEIPI and CASRIP, will be held on September 19th, 2014 in Paris (see below).
Coming soon: New framework agreement between CEIPI and CPVO
The Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) is an agency of the European Union which ensures the implementation of the Community plant variety rights system.
Concerned with raising public awareness and knowledge about community plant variety rights, area of intellectual property sometimes neglected in the academic classical programs, the two institutions are considering signing a framework agreement.
The signature of the agreement is scheduled for October 1st 2014, during a ceremony to be held at CEIPI, where the President of the CPVO, Mr. Martin Ekvad, will participate. The ceremony will be followed by a round table on the topic “The Community plant variety system: Challenges and Opportunities”.
The round table is composed by: Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, Mr. Martin Ekvad, President of CPVO, Mr. Francesco Mattina, Head of the Legal Unit at CPVO, Mr. Paul van der Kooij, Senior Lecturer at the University of Leiden, Chairman of the Board of Appeal of the CPVO, Mr. Théo Hassler, Professor at CEIPI, Ms. Geertrui van Overwalle, Professor of IP Law at the K.U.Leuven, Belgium.

TRAINING OF JUDGES OF THE UNIFIED PATENT COURT
Inaugural Conference of the Training Centre for Judges of the Unified Patent Court in Budapest
In line with its engagement in the construction of the European legal and policy framework for intellectual property, CEIPI participated in the inaugural conference of the Training Centre for Judges for the Unified Patent Court (UPC) organised by the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office, the European Patent Office and the Hungarian Ministry of Public Administration and Justice.
The conference held on March 13-14, 2014 provided a forum to discuss the training of judges of the UPC. The highest European and Hungarian intellectual property-related authorities were present at the meeting, namely Mr. Benoît Battistelli, President of the European Patent Office (EPO) and Mr. António Campinos, President of the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM). CEIPI was represented by Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, who delivered a presentation on the topic “The Training of the Judiciary: a Key to Success for the Unified Patent Court.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION
CEIPI Summer School on Intellectual Property in Europe - 2014
For the 6th consecutive year, CEIPI organised a Summer School on IP in Europe. The courses took place from 3 to 11 July, 2014.
Lecturers are chosen from the CEIPI staff and intellectual property specialists including academics, specialised practitioners and professional representatives.
The summer school aims to provide an academic and practical overview of the IP-related aspects of the legal system in the European Union, as well as presenting concrete ideas about IP litigation in Europe. The course is intended mainly for students and practitioners who want to acquire the basics of the European IP system.

CEIPI-WIPO partnership: two new seminars in 2014
The cooperation agreement signed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in June 2013 has been implemented in the 2013/2014 academic year. In this context, two new one-week seminars on specific topics have replaced the previous two-week advanced training course.
▪ The first seminar was held from June 16-20, 2014 at CEIPI in Strasbourg. Organised in conjunction with WIPO and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), it was dedicated to: “Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights: European, International and Comparative Aspects”. The seminar is intended for fifteen representatives from national IP property and collective management bodies of developing countries, countries with economies in transition and least developed countries.

25th European tutors’ meeting of the international section of CEIPI
On 15 and 16 May 2014, the International Section of CEIPI organized the 25th annual meeting of its tutors teaching the basic training courses in European Patent Law and the preparation courses for the European Qualifying Examination. Almost 70 specialists in European Patent law, coming from several European countries, participated in this meeting to share their experience and to attend several presentations on European Patent Law.

- The CEIPI tutors at the 25th meeting
Mr. Jérôme Debrulle, General Advisor at the Belgian Intellectual Property Office (FPS Economy, SMEs, Self-Employed and Energy) presented the latest developments regarding the unitary patent and the UPC agreement. The following very lively discussion was moderated by Mr. Francis Leyder, Chairman of epi EPPC.
As a supplement to Mr. Debrulle’s presentation, Mr. Harald Springorum, German and European patent attorney, lecturer at the Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf and coordinator of the Düsseldorf basic training course, and Ms. Nassim Kiani, attorney specialising in intellectual property law shared their experience as co-organizers of the epi-CEIPI course on Patent Litigation in Europe, in order to summarize the recent developments and prospects of representatives before the Unified Patent Court and the future Patent Litigator certificate.
Ms. Christine Bonvallet, Senior Legal Officer at the PCT Legal Affairs Section of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) gave a presentation on PCT updates. This programme was completed by Mr. Daniel Thomas, former director of DG 1 of the European Patent Office (EPO) and CEIPI tutor, and Mr. Derk Visser, European patent attorney and CEIPI tutor, author of the “Annotated European Patent Convention”, who presented recent EPO case law.
In addition to the above exchanges and presentations, the meeting gave participants the opportunity to visit part of the local heritage of the University of Strasbourg and to enjoy a common dinner in a village located in the heart of the Alsatian vineyards.

A delegation of the China EU School of Law at CEIPI
A group of 30 students from the Master program “European and International Law” of the China-EU School of Law took a three weeks class in Strasbourg on Consumer protection law.
Professor Danièle Alexandre welcomed the delegation and Mr. Nicolas Nord, Vice-Dean of international relations and Associate professor at the Law Faculty of Strasbourg, was in charge of instruction. Mr. Yves Reboul, Professor Emeritus and Director of the French Section of CEIPI and Ms. Céline Meyrueis-Pebeyre, Associate Professor and Director of studies of CEIPI were delighted to host the delegation on April 15, 2014 for an introduction into to the activities of CEIPI in the field of IP.
Results Announcement Ceremony for the “Patents” and the “Trademarks and Industrial Designs” diplomas
The closing ceremony of the academic year for the “Patents” and the “Trademarks and Industrial Designs” diplomas took place on June 27, 2014 with the traditional Results Announcement Ceremony followed by the farewell reception gathering some of the lecturers (Mr. Francis Ahner, Mr. Axel Casalonga, Mr. Laurent Nuss and Mr. Privat Vigand), students and the CEIPI management and team (Mr. Christophe Geiger, Mr. Yves Reboul, Mr. Stéphane Thomas, Ms. Céline Meyrueis, Mr. Yann Basire).
This year, the best students received gifts offered by the INPI (Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle), the ASPI (the French Association of Industrial Property Specialists of the Industry), represented by its President, Mr. Philippe Conan and also from LexisNexis Editions and Victoire Editions.

in collaboration with CEIPI and the Center for Advanced Study & Research on Intellectual Property (CASRIP), University of Washington.
This conference will be held on September 19, 2014 in Paris.

Conference “Genetically modified animal” organized by the CDPF in collaboration with CEIPI
The Centre for fundamental private law (CDPF – Centre de droit privé fondamental) organizes, in collaboration with CEIPI, on September 18, 2014 a conference on the topic “The genetically modified animal: a patentable invention”. The CDPF conducts research on animals within the research project “animal and humanity” at the initiative of Silabe (Simian Laboratory Europe) and the Centre for Primatology. This conference is aimed at lawyers and scientists who are interested in these issues.
Mr. Jean-Baptiste Varoqueaux, Doctoral student at CEIPI, will speak on the topic “The intellectual appropriation of the chimera and genetic programming”.

International research workshop “Copyright and the Public Interest”
From June 30 to July 1, 2014, a group of international researchers have met at CEIPI in the context of an innovative project concerning the question “What would Global Copyright Law Look Like if its Purpose Was the Public Interest?” If we could set aside obligations under present treatises and the underlying interests and develop new copyright law that takes into account new technology, its use and its creators, what would it resemble?
The concept of “public interest” is elusive and difficult to define. The project aims at giving more weight to this concept in the context of copyright law and to gather together positive as well as provocative proposals concerning existence, formalities, rights, obligations, implementation and many other elements.
Led by Dr. Rebecca Giblin, Monash University (Australia), the group includes Ms. Kimberlee Weatherall (Associate Professor, University of Sydney, Australia, co-author), Mr. Christophe Geiger (Associate Professor, Director General of CEIPI, University of Strasbourg, France), Professor R. Anthony Reese (University of California, Irvine, USA), Professor Martin R.F. Senftleben (VU University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands), Mr. Dev Gangjee (Associate Professor, Oxford University, United Kingdom), Ms. Caroline Ncube (Associate Professor, University of Cape Town, South Africa) and Mr. Jeremy de Beer (Associate Professor, University of Ottawa, Canada).

One-day seminar on recent developments in European IP case law
Under the instigation of Professor Joanna Schmidt-Szalewski, the Research department of CEIPI holds every year a one-day seminar on recent developments of European Intellectual Property Law. The last seminar, attended by around 80 people, was held on Friday, May 23rd, 2014, titled “Intellectual Property at the Court of Justice of the European Union”. It was organised under the scientific direction of Ms. Stephanie Carre and Mr. Franck Macrez, Associate Professors at CEIPI.
The members of the Research Department as well as affiliated practitioners reviewed the recent developments in intellectual property case-law in the European Union. The one-day seminar also opened new perspectives to be pursued in the interest of the coherence and efficiency of the European system of intellectual property in the single market.

CEIPI’s International Scholars Round Table on the topic: "(RE)thinking International Intellectual Property, What institutional environment for the development and enforcement of IP law ?"
In the context of this lecture series a roundtable discussion with eminent scholars of intellectual property was organised on May 12, 2014 at CEIPI, on: “(Re)thinking International Intellectual Property, What Institutional Environment for the Development and Enforcement of IP Law?”
This roundtable was composed by Prof. Carlos Correa (University of Buenos Aires), Mr. Christophe Geiger (CEIPI), Prof. Daniel Gervais (Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee), Prof. Craig Nard (Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio), Mr. Pedro Roffe (ICTSD, Geneva), Mr. Xavier Seuba (CEIPI / Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona). Contributions will be soon published in a joint publication series created in the framework of the CEIPI/ ICTSD agreement.

CEIPI 2014 lecture series: “Institutional, Political and Social Perspectives on Intellectual Property”
Conference of Mr. Paulin Edou Edou on the topic “The Intellectual Property Protection System of the AIPO”
In the context of this series of lecture, CEIPI was very honoured by the distinguished presence of Mr. Paulin Edou Edou, Director General of the African Intellectual Property Organisation (AIPO), on April 7 and 8, 2014, who spoke on: “The Intellectual Property Protection System of the AIPO” and “Intellectual Property and the Development of Africa: Present Status and Prospects”.
Research seminars of CEIPI’s Research Department
CEIPI develops its research activities, particularly through seminars held regularly under the supervision of Ms. Stéphanie Carre, Associate Professor at CEIPI, University of Strasbourg. The sessions are open to researchers’, PhD students and PhDs of CEIPI, and others researchers.
These seminars allow the members of the research team and doctoral students to meet and to discuss issues related to intellectual property. The objective of these seminars is to stimulate and create synergy between researchers of the Centre.

CEIPI-BETA workshops on Law & Economics of Intellectual Property
This joint research project at the University of Strasbourg brings together lawyers and economists to formulate a common methodology and scientific output on a broad range of IP related issues. The latest workshops on Law & Economics of IP were held on:
• June 19, 2014: “Invalid but Infringed? An Analysis of Germany’s Bifurcated Patent Litigation System”, by Prof. Dietmar Harhoff, visiting Professor at BETA, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Director of the Munich Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research, Honorary Professor at the University of Munich.
• April 8, 2014: “Economics of IP Enforcement”, by Mr. Xavier Seuba, Senior Research Associate at CEIPI, Marie Curie Fellow, Associate Professor in Public International Law, University Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. This presentation was based on his ongoing research conducted at CEIPI on economic aspects of IP and IP enforcement policies.

European Science Foundation’s (ESF) Exploratory workshop – Participation of Mr. Christophe Geiger on the 1st September 2014, University of Hamburg, Germany
The European Science Foundation organizes from 31st August to 2nd September 2014 at the University of Hamburg an exploratory workshop on the topic “The Future of Patent Governance in Europe”. Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI is invited to present a paper on the 1st September on the topic “Integration by Courts: The Role of the CJEU in the European Patent System: Reconciling the Single Market with Human Rights Concerns?”.

CEIPI at the Workshop of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition on “Collective Management of Copyright in Europe” in Munich
Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI and Ms. Franciska Schönherr, Doctoral student at CEIPI, participated in the workshop of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, who took place on July 14, 2014 on the topic “Collective Management of Copyright in Europe”.
Mr. Christophe Geiger and Ms. Franciska Schönherr briefly presented their paper on the topic: “Effective harmonisation of limitations to copyright in the EU: an opportunity for collective management”.

The 33rd ATRIP Congress took place from July 6 to 9, 2014 at the University of Montpellier, Faculty of Law, titled “Intellectual Property Perspectives on the Regulation of New Technologies”.
Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, delivered a presentation on the topic “Regulating the Online Environment: The End of Copyright Enforcement as We Know It?”.

Presentation by Professor Jean Lapousterle in Beijing (China) on the topic: “European Trade Secrets Protection: the Path Towards an Effective Enforcement”
On June 12, 2014, Mr. Jean Lapousterle, Professor of private law and criminal sciences at the University of Strasbourg and member of the Research Department of CEIPI, delivered a presentation in Beijing (China) on the premises of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) on the topic: “European Trade Secrets Protection: the Path Towards an Effective Enforcement”.
This presentation took place within the framework of the Administrative Agreement on Intellectual Property Cooperation signed in July 2013 between the European Union and the Government of the People’s Republic of China: IP Key.
Participation of Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, in the UN expert meeting on “IP and the right to science and culture”
Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, participated in the UN expert meeting in Geneva on 10 and 11 June 2014 on “The impact of intellectual property regimes on the enjoyment of the right to science and culture” convened by the Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, Ms. Farida Shaheed. The aim of the seminar was to bring together a group of experts to provide valuable insight and advice to the Special Rapporteur and inform her next thematic report to the Human Rights Council.

CEIPI honored three times at the ECTA award
ECTA, the European Communities Trade Mark Association, was formed in 1980. ECTA numbers approximately 1.500 members, coming from all the Member States of the European Union with associate members from all over the world.
In order to strengthen the cooperation and exchange with academics, ECTA has decided to grant an Award to an individual who has written an article or an essay of importance for the development of European Trade mark law.
Mr. Yann Basire, Associate Professor at the University of Orléans and member of the Research Department of CEIPI, won, in June 2014, the 1st prize of the annual ECTA award competition in the “professionals” category, for his paper “Why are the trademarks protected? A comparative approach of the questions of the trademark functions in Europe and in Japan”
In the “students” category, Mr. Leonardo Machado Pontes, student of the Research Master “European and International Intellectual Property Law”, directed by Mr. Christophe Geiger, won the 2nd prize for his paper “Between Deontology and Economics: a Proper Theory Framework to Understand the European Court of Justice’s Decisions on Exhaustion”.
The third prize in the same category was awarded to Mr. Sylvain Akriche, student of the Research Master for his work on: “3D printing and trademark law in the EU: the scope of protection and its limits”.

8th Advanced Intellectual Property Research Forum of WIPO, Geneva
From May, 26 to 28, 2014, Ms. Agnieszka Kupzok, Postdoctoral researcher, Coordinator of CEIPI - BETA project and Ms. Elena Izyumenko, Doctoral student and Research Assistant at CEIPI attended the 8th Advanced Intellectual Property Research Forum of WIPO in Geneva on the theme: “Intellectual property Law and Institutions - New Perspectives and Dimensions”.
Ms. Agnieszka Kupzok presented a paper on “The Role of Institutions in Improving Patent Valuation”. Her presentation was based on on-going research, which focuses on applying a legal & economic approach to the study of intellectual property rights.
Ms. Elena Izyumenko presented a paper on “The Influence of Human Rights Courts on the Shape and Interpretation of IP Law”. Her presentation was partly based on the recently published article co-signed with Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI: “Copyright on the Human Rights’ Trial: Redefining the Boundaries of Exclusivity through Freedom of Expression”, International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law 45(3) IIC 316 (2014)

Participation of Mr. Yann Basire at the International Conference on Comparative Law in Intellectual Property “Protection of Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin: Challenge and Perspective” at Tunghai University (Taiwan)
Mr. Yann Basire, Associate Professor at the University of Orléans and member of the Research Department of CEIPI participated on May 9, 2014 in the International Conference on Comparative Law in Intellectual Property: “Protection of Geographical Indications and Appellations of Origin: Challenge and Perspective” organized by the College of Law, Tunghai University, Taiwan.

At a conference organised by the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition on the topic “TRIPS’ 94 +20: Beyond Trade Rules”, on April 15, 2014, Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, presented a paper titled: “Towards a Balanced International Legal Framework for the Criminal Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights”.
Franco-Brazilian conference: “The Functions of Intellectual Property Rights in the 21st Century”, April 2014, Rio de Janeiro, co-organised by CEIPI
The first Franco-Brazilian meetings on intellectual property were successively held in Belo Horizonte, on 8 and 9 April 2014 and in Rio de Janeiro, April 11, 2014. This conference series whose theme was “The functions of intellectual property rights in the 21st century” co-organized by the CEIPI, owes its existence to the initiative taken by two members of the CEIPI Research Department: Mr. Yann Basire, Associate Professor at the University of Orléans and member of the Research Department of CEIPI and Mr. Karlo Fonseca Tinoco, lawyer with the Brazilian, Portuguese and Strasbourg bar, at the firm MT Advogados and doctoral candidate at CEIPI.
The French and Brazilian experts have tackled diverse issues arising in the field of Intellectual Property Law. The discussion focused on the functions of patents, trademarks and designs, and copyright law in Franco-Brazilian comparative law. Thus, in addition to academic presentations, including a paper by Mr. Yves Reboul, Professor Emeritus and Director of the French Section of CEIPI, who spoke on the social function of Intellectual Property Rights, conferences have enabled many professionals to exchange their views on the issue of intellectual property rights.
These Franco-Brazilian meetings were notably supported by CNCPI, represented by its President Mr. Alain Michelet and his secretary Mr. Julien Sicluna, ASPI, represented by Mr. Pierre Gendraud, INPI, represented by Ms. Christine Cabuzel and OHIM, represented by Mr. Pedro Duarte.
This conference offered the opportunity to meet two partner universities of the conference to exchange views on the development of long term training and research collaboration which should emerge by 2015.

EIPIN Network: Christophe Geiger at the 15th Conference of the EIPIN Network in London and finalisation of the European project EIPIN IS (Innovative Training Network)
The second part of the 15th EIPIN Congress, “European IP Law – Quo Vadis?” took place in London from April 4 to 6, 2014.
Mr. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI, chaired the roundtable on: “Artistic Works and Non-Artistic Adaptations in Copyright Law” and he participated in the panel discussion on: “Prospects for a Meaningful Evolution of EU Copyright Law – does Full Harmonisation come too Early?” and “A Union Title for Copyright?”.
At this conference the partners of the EIPIN network finalised an application for a European Training Network, “EIPIN Innovation Society” (EIPIN IS), part of the Horizon 2020 (Innovation Training Network) program.
Launched in the context of the European Commission’s EU2020 plan, EIPIN IS intends to meet the great challenges in education, in innovation and in inclusive societies in a free-market economy.

Doctoral fellowships
Every year CEIPI offers students wishing to pursue doctoral studies several subjects susceptible of being financed.
This year subjects being proposed by members of the Research Department and eligible for a doctoral contract offered by the University of Strasbourg are:
“The Neutrality of Technology in Copyright”, supervised by Ms. Stéphanie Carre;
“Protection of Trade Secrets”, supervised by Professor Jean Lapousterle;
“The Implementation of Special Jurisdictions to Defend Intellectual Property Rights in Europe (with a Focus on the Future Unified Patent Court)” and “The Perimeter of the Trademark in the European Union: How to Adapt to the Digital Environment?”, supervised by Mr. Christophe Geiger.
In the context of a partnership between CEIPI and the Association des conseils en propriété industrielle (ACPI), CEIPI also proposes to finance doctoral studies over a four year period associated with a part-time position as a research assistant at CEIPI. The doctoral thesis would focus on the Unitary Patent and the Unified Patent Court. Supervision of the thesis would be the responsibility of CEIPI and ACPI.
