Public

This course is intended for holders of a M1 in Private Law, European Law, International Law, Comparative Law or Business Law as well as for French or foreign lawyers wishing to specialize in intellectual property.

Prerequisites

This program is open to students in the basic program.

Requirements - Sudents should have:

  • completed a Master of Laws 1 in private law,
  • completed during their university studies the following topics:
    • Law of obligations (acts and juridically significant facts)
    • Property Law
    • Intellectual Property Law
    • Special Contracts
    • Criminal Law
    • Business Law
    • Civil Procedure
    • Criminal Proceeding
  • a good grasp of English.

Foreign students, whether they come from the EU or not, must fulfill the conditions listed below. A good command of French is required of foreign students: various forms of proof are accepted.

Application and Admission

Submission of applications is done from the platform eCandidat (University of Strasbourg). (https://ecandidat-impair.app.unistra.fr/ecandidat/#!accueilView). 

There is a specific procedure for international applicants from one of the 44 countries supported by Campus France : https://www.campusfrance.org/fr).

Submission of applications for the academic year 2022/2023 will be open between Mars 15 and May 15, 2022.

Educational objectives

The objective of the program in intellectual property law and international business law is to educate legal practitioners who desire to specialize in intellectual property law, distribution law and international business law. The program offers theoretical education and practical training so that they acquire an understanding of:

  • the acquisition of intellectual property titles
  • the valuation of intellectual property rights
  • the marketing of products and services incorporating intellectual property rights
  • distribution law competition law (French and European)
  • competition law (Franch and European)

The objective of the program is to educate specialists in the valorisation and marketing of products and services that include intellectual property rights on the regional, national European and international level.

The program includes a mandatory internship with a company as well as the presentation of a research paper.

Note that most of the courses are in french, except for a few of them which are in english.

Learning outcomes

At the end of their training, students will be able to: :

  • Apply the substantive and formal rules necessary for the acquisition and protection of intellectual property rights

  • Negotiate and draft distribution contracts incorporating intellectual property rights, taking into account economic issues

  • Ensure the security, defense and promotion of the interests of the actors of the distribution networks

  • Defend intellectual property rights and safeguard national, European and international distribution networks

  • UE. 1 : International Intellectual Property Law (6 ECTS)
  • UE. 2 : Acquisition and Protection of Intellectual Property Rights (21 ECTS)
  • UE. 3 : Modern languages (3 ECTS)
  • UE. 4 : Legal transactions involving intellectual property rights (12 ECTS)
  • UE. 5 : International trade law (12 ECTS)
  • UE. 6 : Internship and research paper (6 ECTS)

Teaching methods

Traditional courses, tutorials (preliminary work and class discussion), lectures, seminars, conferences, round tables.

Course material

Course materials are made available to students in electronic format and in the form of photocopies for the exercises and practical work to be done.

Type of training and certification

This training constitutes an adaptation and development of skills. It leads to a national Master's degree in "Law, Economics and Management", with a specialization in Intellectual Property Law, Program: Intellectual Property Law and International Business, subject to compliance with the evaluation of knowledge and skills, which are made known to the students.

Duration

1 year.

Timetable

As an indication, the courses take place from Monday to Friday in the following time slots: from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00. Exceptionally, classes may be held on Saturdays. In addition, students attend scientific conferences/events throughout the year which may take place after class.
